Psyche, (4th century B.C.) The National Museum, Naples The romantic story of Love and Psyche is an ancient Greek myth principally known through its retelling by the Roman philosopher Apuleius. Apuleius dwells upon the many obstacles encountered by the ill-fated and unhappy Psyche in her search for her lover after he has been compelled to leave her. In this regard the story becomes somewhat of an allegory related to the soul (Psyche) searching for divine love (Amor).
