The Egyptian name for Horus is Hor, which means face. Horus was worshipped as Mekhenti-irry, meaning, 'He who has on his brow Two Eyes', the sun and moon representing his eyes. During a new moon God Horus is worshipped as Mekhenti-en-irty, meaning, 'He who on his brow has no eyes', in this state Horus was considered the god of the blind. After Horus avenged his fathers death he became King of Egypt. All subsequent kings of Egypt proclaimed themselves as a descendant of Horus.Horus was initially worshipped in the western Delta of Egypt. Later, this cult spread south into Upper Egypt known as Edfu. Horus of Edfu was victorious in the great battle against Seth, his brother. Egyptian God Horus is pictured as a winged sun-disk, man with a falcon's head, or as a sparrow hawk headed lion. But God Horus was most recognized as the form of a sphinx, or as a ram-headed sphinx. Horus was also considered to be the keeper of wisdom.
