This magnificent cast stone head of Apollo Piombino, finished with a bronzed patina, was sculpted from a full figure statue found in the sea near Piombino in 1832.The God Apollo, was revered for the prophesies he received through his oracle at Delphi and gave to the people.Apollo the Greek God loved art, especially music.About the God Apollo Piombino -This Bonded Stone, bronze patinated bust of Apollo the Greek God of Piombino was sculptured from the bronze statue recovered from the sea near the town of Piombino on the west coast of Italy in 1832.It is thought that the origninal Piombino bronze statue of Apollo the Greek God came from Greece during the first part of the fifth century BC even though it bears some characteristics and striking resemblances of the sixth century BC statue of Apollo found at Piraeus.
