A beautiful marble statue of Narcissus replica sculpture. This Narcissus sculpture is almost 25" tall and can be placed on a 36 column at the entry way. Made of bonded Alabaster and mounted to a genuine Alabaster base. This is a replica of Narcissus with a pelt tied around his shoulder from Vicolo del Balcon Pensile in Pompeii. The original was a bronze sculpture that was found at Pompeii. The myth of Narcissus is one of the popular Greek Myths, due to its unique and moral tale of Narcissus, was the son of River God Sepsis and nymph Lyriope. He was known for his beauty and to his extraordinary physique as shown in the fine art sculpture of Narcissus. The myth of Narcissus comes in two different tales, the Greek and the Greco-Roman version. The Greek tale of Narcissus a was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was very proud, but had a disdained for those who loved him. Nemesis saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died at the pools edge. Where flowers had grown after his death. The Roman story is Narcissus parents were worried because of the extraordinary beauty of the child and asked prophet Teiresias what to do, regarding their son’s future. Teiresias told them that the boy would grow older only if “he didn’t get to know himself”. When Narcissus was of age he was walking in the forest and was seen by Nymph Echo saw him and fell in love with him. Narcissus rejected Echo. He is punished by the Gods.
